Thread: Ranking in better in local search engines?

I have a site that i want to rank well in UK search engines The site i have is a .org site. At the moment i am doing much better in the .com version of the search engines and was wondering what i could be doing to help me rank better in the UK version.

I mean, i now how to improve my ranking in general but is there anything that can help improve in the UK versions of the engines as opposed the bigger generic .com version?

use google webmasters to tell google that you targeting visitors from uk

You should try and get the .co.uk version of the domain, or something similiar.

I tried this but the best i could do for the key word i was targeting was a .org.

I will make sure that i have .co.ok infuture though.

Grab G00gle M4ps Ca$h (leetspeak to avoid SERPS) from the downloads section of the forum. It contains some good information about ranking in maps results.

EDIT: This will only help if you meant locally in the UK. (EG London)

Are you trying to rank in a region in the uk or the uk nationaly?

I had a similar problem: i ranked postition 1 globally ( googledotcom ), yet I was position 120th on the uk, and yes I had a .org.

I just submitted to a few .co.uk uk directories and a couple of days later i ranked on the first page ( local search ).

I think just tell google by adding the site to thompson local etc etc. I also changed my targeted audience to uk in webmaster tools

host your server on UK web hosting (IP).
and get more links from UK sites, any links.

submit your link in UK directory,
and get some link from .co.uk
