the only way is to popularize your website. do whatever you can to popularize the website. Manual SEO is mostly preferable to me.

I would go with the best traffic, and that's targeted. As said above, use different ways, have a twitter account and get a following.(read up on how to). Facebook fanpage, Social bookmarking, Hubpages, Squidoo lens. Once your adding quality content to your site and have regular content being added and have a good following then start broadcasting it out every time you add content. Just don't make it look spammy.
