Default Adwords Geo Target Ad, or Geo Target the Keyword Phrase?

How do you set up your campaigns:

What keywords and geo location combo should I use for a local company?

Exact match keyword and city then geo target the state for the ad?
    [city real estate]

    or
Exact match only the keyword and geo target my city AND state for the ad?
    [real estate]

    thanks for any help!

Does anybody know the answer, by chance? I have been told both ways, but I have to think there is a considerable amount of difference in cost. I plan to only target high-end mobile devices, not regular goog search.

    Thanks kindly!

Is going to be a lot more expensive than

Exact match keyword and city then geo target the state for the ad?
    [city real estate]

real estate is a very general keyword. A lot of companies will try to bid for that one. Google does keep in account that you are targetting locally so the cost per click you're going to have to pay will be a bit lower than for advertisers that are bidding for that keyword in the entire US.
Most people are smart enough to mention the city name in which they are looking real estate and the cost per click will be considerably less for this keyword because not that many advertisers will bid for it.

So go for the [city real estate].

Thanks, ozzke for the help....that makes sense! So in the adwords campaign setting, do I also geo tarket specifically the city AND state as well? does that also help / reduce the price?

I got my butt handed to me when I tried adwords a couple of years ago, so even though I am only doing mobile, I don't want lose a ton on testing again!

Thanks so much for your help, you rock!
