I know it is possible to use blog posts to get a back link for a certain keyword. I just don't know how.
When you post a comment you'll be asked your name and your website, so you can use your interested keyword as your name. You can also put the link in your comment body using html code your keyword.
Which way is more effective?
The above it's more effective, the other will look like spam.
How many links does it take to make an impact with a less competitive keyword?
Why not try mate? It depend on where you put them. As you know, you gotta watch where you stick your link, no?
I think if you comment to related sites will be easiest to get ranked for your keyword.
I have been putting it on websites that are related to my keywords, and looking up the keyworded back links of my competitors. If this works, I should have them all out keyworded by weekend, as they only seem to have 15 to 20 keyworded back links. There must be more to this.
There is, it's not that simple. You need to consider the domain age, amount of backlinks (PR of the backlinks), metatags, on-page optimization, internal link structure and url titles.. and some unique content wouldn't hurt.
