Default social bookmarking + adsense = useless?

    Hello!

Lot of ebooks talk about submitting your site (Adsense or without adsense) to social bookmarking sites as the superior secret traffic driving method. But... in my experience it seems that submitting Adsense site to social bookmarking sites is a complete waste of time. I've tried it several times and they (DIGG, Stumbleupon, etc.) bring me only none to few (0-10) visitors, most visits last 0-30 seconds and no ones clicking the ads... even if I have good quality original content there and the site is showing relevant ads...

Is anyone else experiencing the same?

I've also submitted other kinds of sites (non Adsense) to digg and alikes and found them very disappointing traffic driving methods, even though many people recommend using them.

I've been thinking, how much the way I submit my sites there makes difference? I mean the description. Should I put there something like "CHECK OUT THIS SITE!!!!! UNBELIEVABLE!!!!THIS IS SOMETHING AWESOME!!!!!" ? Looks very spammy to me

What kind of sites does break in social bookmarking sites? What people are looking for there?

And what's the next best thing to bring traffic to Adsense site after social bookmarking sites?

I'd agree that social sites aren't good for AdSense traffic, because those visitors are ad blind.

But, they are good for backlinks which can help your SERPs over time, and they can send you tons of traffic very fast if used properly. Again, that traffic isn't good for AdSense or other banner type numbers, but if you wisely place affiliate links into engaging content on the pages you submit that can turn into some decent cash.

The key to using these services (from white hat perspective) is to actually participate on them regularly.

For instance, StumbleUpon isn't going to benefit you if the only sites you submit and stumble are your own. You have to browse and stumble other people's submissions too. It's a weighted system. For every site I want to submit of my own to SU, I browse and stumble (up or down doesn't matter) at least 10 sites that other people submitted. That seems to work pretty well, and I get hundreds, sometimes over a thousand quick visitors when I do submit a site because of it.

I know there are blackhat tricks for these sites to make it easier and faster to use them, but I don't know them. Maybe someone else can offer some tips on that.

    Yes and No

Have found that using WP and the auto-social plugin, can get hundreds of visitors daily, and am averaging about 4% ctr - so not great, but better than nothing.

The things that tend to go viral are stuff like shocking videos/pictures or late breaking news and even then your click thru rate won't be that great as users are ad-blind and mostly interested in the media itself. It is still good for getting indexed even if the traffic dies off within days.

Yeah you can get lots of traffic from social bookmarks and like everyone have all ready said they are ad blind.

Good think about that traffic is that you can get some repeat visitors if your content is very interesting.

To get repeat traffic you can also try to give them something for free (yeah they aren't at buying mood when they stumble site-to-site) and build up your list and sell them something in future because you all ready know what is their interest.
