I found a keyword with 11,000,000 monthly searches, and the person w/ #1 spot has only 300 backlinks, that should be a peice of cake to rank for right? or would there be some other factors that might stop me from ranking?

How about checking the Rest of the competitors Backlinks? before i can make a Judgement here
Yeah i did, 2nd place had about 22k. Should have checked before, still think i can rank, Most of the sites in first 2 pages have backlinks At 0PR. So it shouldn't take that long to rank.
If there is that little competition, you make rank well, but still not make any money.
Is that keyword a buying keyword? You might end up optimizing it and spend a lot of effort on it but at the end there will be no conversion.
Hi seomind, don't mind me asking what is a buying keyword? Sorry very noob here. Thanks
A keyword in which people who are searching that keyword have an intention of buying the product or services.
People can very easily hide their links from nosey competitors.
Also 300 quality links can easily out rank a site with 22,000 low quality links.
This is the real key which many newbies do not seem to recognize. While it's great to go out there and stumble on some "undiscovered" keyword that seem to have an absolutely amazing number of searches and low competition, if that keyword cannot be monetized and has no commercial intent, then it'd just be a waste of time trying to rank that keyword as it would most likely be hard to monetize.
Here's an example: A keyword "Samsung tv" is not much of a buyer keyword, whereas "Samsung un55b8000" is a buyer targeted keyword. The low search volume is compensated by high conversion ratio..
Generally speaking, all "buy" + "" are buyer keywords..
