Meta data is very important to not only the search engines scraping the web but for other purposes...for example, google earth scrapes websites looking for geo location meta data for better listing placements within google earth. Also, if you have a webpage with little textual information on the page and there's no meta description info for the page, the search engines won't have any description for your page...which is extremely important to have obviously.

Title tag is the most important piece of information for search engines because it describes exactly what the webpage contains.

I am totally agree with you.

if you title tag match people's searched keywords then it becomes easier for anyone to get on top of the rank on search result. so if you insert keywords in your title tag then it is always a good and thoughtful seo.
