Default Sub domain or sub directories

Would hxxp://keyword.domain.com/ be more advantageous in terms of SERP than hxxp://www.domain.com/keyword/ ? Or is there no difference?

A subdomain counts as an own domain I think...so I would use domain.com/keyword/

As far as my experience goes. site.domain.com is treated as a different site by Google. As far as SEO is concerned both are fine but managing a site.domain.com can be a bit pain.

So, basically I should go with sub directories, right?

The clear advantage of going with subdomains is if your site gets really big you can easily move a subdomain to a different host, subdirectories are easier to manage if you do not expect to scale, other than that there is no difference according to google.
