Thread: Traffic problem - Can anyone explain this?

I was almost certain I found a good niche with low competition.

I type the keyword in keywordspy.com and it says the volume searches is 450,000 per month

I am now #4 on google yet I only get around 3-5 hits per day.


What's the problem? Is it my meta tag description?

tough to say but can't be meta issue... not that less... I am sure problem is with keyword volume... It can't be that much... Check google external keyword tool and wordtracker also, may be after checking both you find different result... Also check exact match, may be you were checking broad again...

Just guessing without keyword tough to answer...

I just checked google adwords kw tool and it says 40,500 global/18k monthly for exact match

checked freekeywords.wordtracker.com and it says 594 visitors From #1 in Google/day

Well it depends on several factors.
Your meta description and title, if used by GoogleThe total number of slots between your position and the top. While there may only be three web properties in front, there may be other stuff that Google likes to add like videos, news or ads. This reduces the exposure on the site and can dramatically decrease the trafficIf the site has an authority site in its niche. This can be website with site links, but also an authority. Say you optimized for Facebook, and the real Facebook site is in the top position. Most searchers are looking for Facebook and will access the first result only. This reduces the clicks on the remaining resultsMaybe your site ranking fluctuates, or it is shown to you in that position because of your past searches.

The keyword tools focus on broad match - and if you are only ranking for a particular exact match, you won't get very far.

eg say the keyword is blue fancy widgets - broad match is counting all the variations of those words - so "I fancy those blue widgets", "the widgets are coloured a fancy blue shade" and so on. Unless you are ranking for all those variations, you won't get anywhere near the traffic.

Then there's the issue of the top three in the SERPs getting most of the traffic and the rest getting about 2%. It's no good being on the first page, you really need to be in the top three. The rest of the page only gets traffic if the searcher thinks the top three arn't relevant or don't like their summary for some reason.
