It really depends on what you want to do with it; however, if you are like me and just using it for your own personal projects you really don't need that much unless you are impatient.

I have 25 mbs down 5.0 mbs up. I generally scrape with HREFER for a week, blast for 2 or 3 days, then start scraping again.

I really don't mind this slow paced schedule, because there is so much other stuff to do. adding new content, article marketing, blog commenting, bookmarking etc. its just another linkbuilding tool in my rotation.

I do however, reccommend that you make sure you get a decent router then upgrade it with DD-WRT firmware, unless you want to drop some big bucks on a good CISCO.

I am running an ASUS N-16 router upgraded with DD-WRT and have it pretty well maxed out, but this is what I have going at all times:

3 home use PC's average daily use between me and my girlfriend.
1 Roku box streaming netflix almost constantly

1 PC scanning or leeching proxies with Charon 40 threads

1, win2003 server running either 300 threads of HREFER + 50 threads proxy checking OR 200 posting threads with xrumer.

every so often in high peak usage times I have to turn down the thread count on Hrefer or xrumer to keep the video streaming, or bookmarks and articles posting, but for the most part I can get away with this constantly.

It is not an ideal setup by any means, but it works well enough for my needs at this time.

I have quite good server, 100mbit port and xrumer/hrefer takes around 4TB monthly BW.

It will run on a VPS just fine but make sure the internet connection is good enough if you're sharing it.. Spamahost.com is about the best there is/...

    Guys!
It is sure if you have 10000Mbs port, it will be better.

But I think, like everything, Xrumer has limits to operate.

First of them: YOUR COMPUTER POWER to make simultaneos requisitions.

Second: your internet port (sure 100Mbs will be better than 10Mbs).

Third: quality of your proxies. If not.. your IP will burn in the hell....

    :)
